Michael Kent Murphy

Michael's medium is oil painting. His paintings depict our local buildings and landscapes with an Impressionist energy and an eye for seasonal moods and color. Most of his canvases and washes are painted on site to capture the natural energy of the scene. Mike has been painting for over 30 years, and has found a home with the light and seasons of the Sierras.

Mike will first sketch and under paint his subject directly to the canvas on location. He then works on the sky in the studio, creating the desired could effects. Usually, he will return to the site the next day at the same time to capture the colors and quality of light. Finally, he will add any needed highlights and details in his studio.
